• Of all segments of German games market, in-game and in-app purchases recorded the largest growth in sales revenue. This segment alone grew 44% compared to 2019 and generated €3.2 billion.
• Most of this revenue comes from microtransactions for game character upgrade and season pass sales.

• Game download purchases increased by 13% compared to last year, accounting for 58% in sales.
• As a result of such increase in game download purchases, the percentage of sales generated by downloads in sales revenue increased to 41%.

● Characteristics of German Gamers

• More than 58% of the German population play PC, console, or mobile games.
• 52% of German gamers are men, 48% women.
• The average age of gamers in Germany is 37 years, which is older than that in the entire EU, 31 years. The portion of senior gamers from 60 to 69 years in Germany is greater than that in other EU member states.

● Gamescom 2021, a Global Festival for Gamers

• Germany hosts gamescom, one of the world’s biggest game exhibits along with E3 of the United States and TGS of Japan.
• Gamescom 2021 will take place online for 5 days from August 23 to 27 in Cologne, Germany.
• The central theme of this year’s gamescom is ‘Games: The New Normal,’ which focuses the societal role and potential of games in a more digital, networked world for the post-pandemic era.
